Introduction to Basic Ceramic Techniques Workshop
by Manjar Ceramics
Join us to learn basic ceramic skills in this two sessions workshop.
Manjar Ceramics will present this workshop as an introduction to pottery technique of pinch pots, slab, and coil building techniques. We will also be going over the stages of clay, firing processes, glazing, and finally attaching and thickness. We will be bringing examples of the stages of clay from slip, workable clay, leather hard, bone dry, and finally greenware examples. After the greenware example we will show an example of bisqueware, and glazeware. We will explain the firing process and how to prevent explosions in the kiln during a bisque firing.
The first session will start with an introduction to a brief history of ceramics. Afterwords we will start by using the pinch pot technique. Each will be given a pound to create a unique piece. During the presentation we will also discuss scoring and slipping. We will finalize by making sure that the pieces are within proper thickness.
On the second session we will focus on basic painting decorative techniques. Each student will be able to choose from either acrylic paint or glaze to decorate their pieces.
First session on Saturday, September 30th, 11 am – 1:30 pm
Second session on Saturday, October 7th, 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm
